Muscle energy techniqueRemedial Yoga

Remedial Yoga is for those who have joint or spinal problems, long-term illness, or who are recovering after injury, e.g. having broken an arm, and wishing to build up the arm muscles or regain confidence after a fall. Muscle strengthening techniques and assisted stretches for specific groups of muscles are used.

Lucy usually will assess you first on a 1 to 1 basis. She will then discuss with you whether its best to continue Yoga Therapy with you on a weekly basis, giving you exercise sheets to take home with you, or which class could be suitable for you to join. or whether specialist 1 to 1 sessions might be appropriate at first.

"Any expertise I have acquired in this area of work has grown from those who have contacted me to see if I can help them. For instance a 70 year old lady came to me with a formerly broken collar-bone after a fall, which although it had mended, had left her with a shoulder she could hardly move. She and her husband came tor 6 months to a gentle stretch class. For the first few months she did shoulder and leg stretches seated in a chair, until she regained the confidence to work against a wall., and do standing poses again , as she regained her sense of balance and mobility. She and her husband are now able to take part again in the weekly yoga class in their local village.

A 10 year old boy with muscular dystrophy found much relief from yoga, and especially enjoyed the 'flying carpet' relaxations. Some others from his Home Education Group joined him and for a while I ran 'Yoga for Tweenagers' class for them, which seemed to prove especially useful for one of the group, an active gymnast, broke her arm, at the elbow and found this yoga quite helpful in regaining her arm strength.

Local osteopaths, who have come to know of my work, have started referring people to me. I , myself, have had a battle with m.e. (chronic fatigue syndrome) and had some sacral problems due to muscle weakness. This seems to have given me the patience and knowledge to help others with illness and injury."
