History – from Shippon to Shala
Between 2002 and 2004 Lucy decided to renovate the old milking parlour, known as 'The Shippon', at the bottom of her garden. It had remained unused for many years, being formerly used by the Gibson family, the smallholders, who farmed from 29 Canal Street, Congleton, next door to Lucy's first cottage 31 Canal Street, which she bought in January 1998. After the death of Sidney Gibson in 2006, Lucy then bought number 29 and joined both properties into one house. Number 31 had originally been 'Grandma' Gibson's house.

By the autumn of 2004 it was ready to be used and Lucy transferred her classes there from the other local venues she had been using. 'Shala' means 'room' in Sanskrit. In India the most common designation for a yoga room is 'Yoga Shala', and therefore you will see the sign 'Yoga Shala' on the back gate leading to the Studio building.
